This compass separates two things that are usually confused: which side you sympathise with, and how much coercion you think the response should involve. They are not the same question, and people who agree on one often disagree sharply on the other.

A note on method
Twenty statements, ten per axis, drawn from positions that are argued in good faith across the political spectrum. Statements were written in matched pairs so that neither pole is systematically easier to agree with. This is a measure of stance, not of correctness.
